Alpha Xi Delta

Iota Phi at American University

Chapter History

The Iota Phi Chapter at American University was founded in the spring of 2014 as the first new sorority on campus in over 30 years. In the past four years since colonization, we have grown our chapter to almost 200 active sisters and alumnae.

We pride ourselves on being passionate, unique, uplifting, empowering, genuine, authentic, diverse, strong, ambitious, and confident members of the AU Greek Community. Our purpose is to empower one another, be understanding of each other’s viewpoints, speak highly of one another, be proud of each other, be proud of ourselves, be positive, give each other constructive feedback, and inspire each other. We do this while becoming better versions of ourselves and giving back to our community.

Our location in Washington, DC provides us with many opportunities to intern with prestigious organizations, plan sisterhood events, and grow in our relationship with our philanthropic partner, Autism Speaks.

Our members are involved on campus in professional fraternities, environmental organizations, club sports, and the performing arts. We have held prestigious internships, docked numerous community service hours, and adventured around the world in study abroad programs.

Alpha Xi Delta has proven itself to be a team player among the eight Panhellenic organizations, fifteen Interfraternity Council organizations, and six Intercultural Greek Collective organizations. Being an active member in AU's Greek life and supporting other organizations is extremely important to us.
