Alpha Xi Delta

Iota Phi at American University

Chapter Philanthropy

The sisters of Iota Phi are honored to support and raise money for our national philanthropy, Autism Speaks. We are also extremely proud to be one of the only Greek organizations on campus to host two separate philanthropy events.

Xi Cornhole Classic:

In the fall we host Xi Cornhole Classic, where teams compete against one another in Cornhole, a game in which you try to score points by tossing beanbags onto a wooden board. There is never a shortage of food and fun and occasionally a guest DJ appearance. Anyone attending AU is welcome to come out and make a team. This past semester our chapter raised over $6,000 for Autism Speaks!

Xi Marks the Spot:

Our Spring event, Xi Marks the Spot, is modeled after the "Amazing Race", an adventure full of riddles, games, and obstacles courses. Teams compete against each other to see who can successfully complete all of challenges and make it to the finish line!

Light It Up Blue:

Along with our two money-raising events, Alpha Xi Delta also participates in "Light It Up Blue", where sisters volunteer to cover all of the lights surrounding Katzen Art Center in gels, turning the art center blue for World Autism Awareness Day. In doing so, we join over 150 countries who also light up national monuments on April 2 each year to stand in solidarity with those on the Spectrum.

Autism Speaks Walk:

Finally, thanks to our location in the nation's capital, we are able to volunteer during one of the biggest Autism Speaks Walks that takes place on the National Mall each fall. We join other Alpha Xi chapters throughout the DMV area and spend the day greeting participants, manning information and service tents, and guiding walkers along their route. For many of our sisters, the Walk reminds us of how connected and dedicated we are as a national organization to our philanthropy.
